The old Europe
Delimitation of the continent
The continent is delimited by the Atlantic Ocean and the Norwegian Sea on the western part, by the Arctic Ocean in the north.
Its southern limit, facing the coasts of North Africa, is marked by the Strait of Gibraltar, while the Straits of the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles mark the southeastern border with Asia Minor.
It is considered that the Ural River and mountains, together with the Caucasus, form the northeastern limits of the continent.
The climate in Europe
Among the diversity of climates occurring in Europe, we find mainly the temperate climate, under the influence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
Around the Black Sea and the Balkans we observe the presence of a humid subtropical climate, while a continental type of climate is present in eastern Poland.
The northernmost regions are subject to a cold, even polar, oceanic climate.
